This week starts with great news for Garden State bettors who wish to take their betting on-the-go. Three betting companies—BetStars, 888sport, and BetMGM—have launched their mobile apps for iOS users.
The apps were greenlit last week, so you can already download them from the Apple App Store. All three companies already have experience with mobile betting. BetStars and 888 presented their Android versions in September this year, while playMGM made sure its Android-using customers got their app a whole month before! These app launches are a great opportunity both for businesses and local governments to garner more profits from betting while offering a competitive betting atmosphere in a post-PASPA New Jersey.
For those of you who are unfamiliar with the subject, PASPA (Professional and Amateur Sports Protection Act) was a congressional act that came into power in 1992, due to the alleged harmful influences of sports betting. However, New Jersey was one of the most vocal opponents of the bill, citing its unconstitutional nature. Fortunately, the act was repealed in May this year, making sports betting legal throughout the US. It’s no news that online betting is steadily but surely taking over as the most profitable medium for betting. Physical betting garnered $11.4 million since PASPA was abolished, while mobile betting has garnered a staggering $12.5 million.
However, it won’t be a cakewalk for playMGM, 888, and BetStars, since they are not the first to launch iOS apps. The market is already dominated by DraftKings Sportsbook, which occupies almost three quarters of the market share, and FanDuel Sportsbook, which picks up what’s left behind by DraftKings. There’s no doubt three more companies will make for an exciting and fresh betting market.
